Allergy symptoms involve the skin, sinuses, airways and digestive system. The severity of allergies varies from minor irritation to life-threatening emergency. Beside your medications and doctor’s suggestions, you may consider trying one or more of the following to help improve allergy symptoms. Healthy Ping’s remedies and Suggestions:

Vitamin B2 supports a wide-spectrum of health benefits, best known for its crucial roles in thyroid function and energy metabolism. It’s also essential for healthy vision, tissue repair and the protection of the skin and mucosal. Taking vitamin B2 100mg daily can improve allergic symptoms in about a week.

 Calcium & Vitamin C: Usually people take Calcium to strengthen the bones and take Vitamin C to boost their immune system. But both of them help control hives and reduce recurrence because of their anti-inflammatory and anti-histamine properties. For hives, take 500 mg calcium citrate 3 times a day and vitamin C 500 mg 1 or 2 times a day with a meal.

 Probiotics: Friendly bacteria helps regular immune response, prevents allergies; helps eliminate harmful viruses, yeast and bacteria; reduces inflammation and increases resistance to infection.

Papaya & Pineapple enzymes: Help completely digest protein and fiber, clean allergic antigens in the gut, reduce leaky gut syndrome and relieve inflammations.

Case 1: a female patient, age 50, has suffered from sinusitis for nearly 20 years. After 4 months of taking probiotics, her symptoms such as congestion, running nose and sneezing have started to subside.

Case 2: a male patient, age 49, had sinus infections repeatedly for over 5 years, he needed antibiotics every 2 to 3 months and used antibiotic nasal rinse daily. After he took probiotics for 3 months, he had fewer infections.

Case 3: a female patient, age 35, developed and had eczema for 2 years after having children. After using probiotics for 2 weeks, her skin lesions and inflammation were almost gone.

OPC (Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins): is a set of natural antihistamine bioflavonoid complexes present in most fruit and vegetables, particularly in plant bark, skin, and seeds. It can reduce histamine which causes inflammation and allergies. OPC also rids off free radical and boosts energy. Healthy Ping’s Drink: is natural source of OPC made with fresh fruits, vegetables and nuts. If making your own drink, you will get plenty of OPC instead of taking supplements.

Ginger Root: helps relieve hives, sinusitis, asthma, chronic cough, stomach aches, nausea, joint pain and weight loss. Blend ginger with the skin, the width of three quarters and half a lemon with 1 cup of water, drink 3 times a day.  Blanch the root in boiling water for a few seconds to sterilize it before using.

Chinese herbs: to normalize the immune system, detoxify and clean out the allergens from the blood stream, treat allergies, prevent attacks and cold or flu symptoms. Some herbs have the properties of anti-inflammation and anti-infection.

Nasal rinse: daily nasal hygiene such as Sinus Rinse with a saline solution to wash off the excessive mucus or allergens, moisturize and subside the irritation of inflamed membranes in the nose, sinuses and throat. It also helps relieve sinus congestion and hay fever symptoms. Most of our patients suffering from sinusitis get good results from using the Sinus Rinse. Important: 1) Don’t rinse if your nasal passage is completely blocked, if so you may use some nasal spray to open the blocked passage before using nasal rinse; you may rinse with a partially blocked nasal passage. 2) To avoid introducing bacteria into your nasal passageways, clean the bottle and tube with alcohol (70%) between uses.

Herbal nasal spray: to reduce nasal congestion, inflammation and infection.

Topical paste to soothe skin irritation for insect stings and poison oak: one of the following may help. 1) make a paste 50% Epsom salt solution (mix half Epson salt and half water) on sting site for 30 minutes 2 or 3 times a day until the swelling is reduced; 2) place a few slices of cucumber or potato on the site as often as you like until you feel better. 3) Tecnu Extreme medicated Poison Ivy Scrub and Gel treat symptoms of poison oak and poison ivy to the next level, which are over-the-counter.

 Calamine lotion: a famous astringent for the itch and discharge resulting from poison ivy. It helps soothe the itch and swelling from the hives as well, because Calamine lotion keeps the blood vessels from leaking fluid and histamine which cause allergic reactions.
