Restless legs syndrome

Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a condition in which your legs feel extremely uncomfortable, typically in the evenings while you’re sitting or lying down. It makes you feel like getting up and moving around. When you do so, the unpleasant feeling of restless legs syndrome temporarily goes away. RLS can begin at any age and generally worsens with age. It can disrupt sleep leading to daytime drowsiness and make traveling difficult. A number of simple self-care steps and lifestyle changes may help you. Medications also help many people with restless legs syndrome. (Source: Mayoclinic.com)

Treatment with Traditional Chinese medicine

In traditional Chinese medicine, good health depends upon two things: an unobstructed flow of energy and a balance of vital energy. Any health issue can occur when the energy flow is blocked or the vital energy is out of balance. One analogy would be as a traffic jam of energy inside the body, which results in health problems such as RLS. We use Ping’s meridian massage and acupuncture together to get better results.

Ping’s meridian massage is pressure along the meridians to clear up the body’s traffic jam, make energy and blood flow like a river and re-balance the vital energy in the body. Acupuncture is hair-thin needles that are inserted into the skin at specific points along the meridians to re-direct and unblock stagnant energy. The massage reaches a much wider surface area and acupuncture focuses on deep and specific points, using both techniques together is a unique, holistic and alternative treatment.

Our regular treatment procedure is first Ping’s meridian massage would be performed for 30 minutes to improve circulation and relax the mind and body. Second, needles would be inserted into the specific acupuncture points. When both methods are combined, the effective results are much greater than just one single treatment.

With the above treatment, our RLS patients get good results.   It helps by lessening the sensation such as twitching, tingling, aching, itching or tugging in their limbs. It also helps to relax the muscles, reduce stress, improve sleep and boost the energy level and is good for general health.  Some patients are RLS free for awhile.

Taji, Yoga, Pilates or Yogilates can help with physical and mental overall well being.
